Corporate Communications

Workshop by Fridus Valkema from Schuttelaar & Partners, communication experts and Rianne Roukema, head of Corporate Communications at Octoplus, a biotechnology company located at the BioScience Park Leiden.

Corporate communications is the communication issued by a company or organization to all its public(s). These publics can be internal such as employees or share holders, or external such as the general public, government or educational institutes. Corporate communications serves as the liaison between an organization and its publics and should serve the overall business strategy of the company.

In this workshop you will work on the set up of a communcation plan for a company active in the Life Science, facing sensitive issues concerning genetic modification. By analysing the communication pyramid all relevant publics and their communication tools are identified.

Strategic Consultancy

Workshop by McKinsey & Company a global management consulting firm that gives advise to the world's leading businesses, governments and institutions.


Strategic consulting refers to both the industry of, and the practice of, helping organizations improve their performance, primarily through the analysis of existing business problems and development of plans for improvement. During the workshop a (real life) case will be presented to you and you are challenged to find a growth strategy for a client as if you are an Junior Consultant. During this workshop you will experience the work of a strategy consultant and their way of analysing complex problems.

Clinical Research Associate

Workshop by Jenina Wieringa-Oost.  Jenina started as CRA and now is Project Manager at ICON Clinical Research. Prior to her work at ICON she studied Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences and followed the SBB program.


The main task of a clinical research associate (CRA) is to monitor clinical trails. A CRA ensures compliance with the clinical trail protocol, checks clinical site activities, makes on-site visits, reviews Case Report Forms (CRF's) and communicates with clinical research investigators.

During this workshop you will find out what a CRA does by going trough a case that a CRA may encounter.
